This is what I was told today:
Calculus isn’t even difficult, but fuck that. It’s gonna get harder, and…you should switch your major. There’s physics, (which requires Calculus II), and statistics, and linear algebra, and you suck at math. And algorithms and data structures are math classes; and so is foundations of computer science.
Yep, great way to live life. If it’s hard, fuck it. Every rational person does that.

I’m not exactly sure what this is about. Who told you that? Do realize that even if you’d suck at calculus*, you could still do fairly well in IT style mathematics. Calculus is a part of analysis while IT stuff is generally closer to discrete mathematics and mathematical logic. Also, as far as I know, there is also plenty of IT stuff that requires next to no math at all.
*I can’t tell what kind of calculus course you are going to, but in some of them you just integrate functions with little to no actual mathematics, i.e. proving theorems. This kind of courses are intended for engineers and physicists. Your success / failure in this type courses is not a good indicator on how well you will do in other math courses.
Remember that passion is more important than skill at your point in studies. If you enjoy the work involved you can handle the challenge. When I started jiu jitsu I sacked. Really sacked, but I loved it. It took me 3 years before I beat someone in practice. But I struggled and was able to overtake my peers by sheer resilience. The love of the art kept me going. If you truly enjoy cs, please push onward. Even if it takes longer than planned sheer determination can lead you through.
