Angel with broken wings

You know that girl with the beautiful face,

Cute little body, not a hair out of place?

She’s always the first one to tell you a joke,

Share her advice, or give your ego a stroke.

Her smile can brighten anyone’s day.

She seems so perfect in every way.

Don’t forget she’s so smart and so strong.

You’d never know that you were so wrong.

 

You don’t notice the scars on her wrists

Or the pain that’s hiding behind hazel eyes.

Makeup covers the brushes from his fists,

While the truth is covered up with her lies.

She really believes that she deserves this.

After all, it’s been like this her whole life.

 

As a little girl she survived

Strange men in her bed.

She laid there and cried

With his gun to her head,

Asking her God why

She wasn’t just dead.

 

She turned to drugs to relieve the pain

As her own family joined in the game.

Abused and tortured while passed from house to house.

She began to see what this life was really all about.

And when she finally got the courage to speak up

Her own mother called her a dirty slut.

She was worthless and should never have been born,

But she couldn’t cry with her spirit so torn.

So she was locked away for weeks on end

Only to be released so it could start over again.

For so long she was told she wasn’t worth a damn.

She started to believe, “that’s just the way I am.”

She started choosing the drugs and abuse.

Any other way would be of no use.

She found a man who tells her what to think about.

Shows her he loves her with a slap and a shout.

He doesn’t help her find happiness.

Even the drugs quit bringing on the bliss.

Until he gives her a child of her very own,

But he steals it away too and leaves her alone.

 

If you think it’s hard to hear all the things you missed,

Then take a moment to ask your God this:

Was her pain not enough when it first began,

That in her dreams every night she has to live it again?

You think this is pain, but you don’t know the half of it.

How can anybody tell her she doesn’t have the right to quit?

You never knew her pain so just let her pass.

All that she wants is to just find peace at last.

This isn’t some movie about scary dreams.

This is the story of an angel with broken wings.
