I noticed that this group has some of the most undersranding, intelligent, and empathetic people thst I ever came across. I wonder…..maybe we are the ones that are sane but suffer from mental illnesses because we are in a world where the vast majority of humans are nut jobs. Think about it – look how shallow, mean, and ignorant most people outside this group are?

If only that were the case. Like the episode where the playwright only had to type a character into a script, then throw it in the fireplace – and the character just disappears from “real” life. Wouldn’t it be great to leave that easily.
I love when they play it every new years. I only like the old ones with Rod Serling. Never bothered to watch the later ones..
My question is – why can’t people make up shows like the twilight zone anymore? That show was haunted and made people think

It sure does! I see insanity everywhere I look, no wonder I love this site so much. Finally! I’m surrounded who are legitimately give a damn and are intelligent and creative.

That’s probably true. The sociopaths and psychopaths are the ones being praised for their complete normalcy and high achievement and successes in life.
Studies say that around 1% of the human population are sociopaths….I don’t buy into such a low number. I think it’s a lot higher. Sociopaths are less likely to seek treatment, more likely to show there superficial charm to trick psychiatrists, and there’s a good chance that many people doing the studies are sociopaths themselves. I meet far too many sociopaths to accept the 1% theory. Sociopathy is so embedded in human nature, and so stealthy too.
Human nature to a degree. Sometimes I wonder if sociopathy is the majority and we are the minority who are not. Who knows, society is so freaking weird it’s hard to tell which way is up anymore
Yeah exactly. It’s the superficial charm of the successful people, and the normal majority. Hiding their personal agendas behind pretending to be good, upstanding, moral citizens. Plenty in power don’t even hide it. And by power, I mean anyone from a manager at Walmart to a landlord to a CEO. Plenty of people don’t hide that they’re a sociopath. Those of us who aren’t – we’re the ones at the bottom of society, being looked down on for not being thin enough, good looking enough, rich enough, successful enough, etc.
It’s a proven fact that intelligent people have more depression and mental problems than those of lesser intelligence. It’s simply that intelligent people are more capable of questioning things, either to do with the world or themselves. A lesser intelligent person with a mental problem will not question their own thinking or behavior, it just the rest of the world is mad not them. An intelligent person has the ability to question their own thought patterns.
An intelligent person will often question everything, not follow the crowds like a sheep and make their own informed decisions based on what they have researched for themselves. Apparently it is a difficult thing for a lesser intelligent person to question their own thoughts.
Totally agree! People with low IQs are more happy on average. Ever see a depressed person with Down syndrome? Exactly!
Yeah possible, most people I know who killed themselves or those depressed are/were relatively more intelligent and have higher iq. Suicide among scientists is higher than general population and some very famous scientists (like Boltzmann) killed themselves.
I think a reason for this might be ‘more intelligent/deep thinkers’ generally spend more time on thinking meaning/purpose of life/universe. If you think about it you are very likely to conclude they r meaningless (specially in modern world with all scientific knowledge)

Another thing about society – when I got an IQ test, they gave me a freaking 88 while the normal iq is 100. I’ll tell you why I got a low score – because I learn and think differently from what the test provided. When these IQ tests are created, they have a one size fits all approach, as if everyone’s brain should work the same. If we don’t meet THERE expectations, they label us as mentally disabled. Everyone I know thinks I’m smart (not trying to brag).

Lucky. I’ve tested at 137 and people call me dumb all the time, and I’ve heard that I’m as dumb as shit many, many times.
When I was run over by the truck, I was sent for an IQ test because the insurance company wanted to see what type of work I’d be suitable for as I was not going to recover enough to go back into Department of Corrections. They were supposed to post my results out but by the time I drove home the Psychiatrist was ringing me to tell me I was in the top 5% of the population with a 127 score. He said he was excited to tell me because he had never had anyone test so high. I wasn’t so happy as it made my insurance claim worth less because they said I was smart enough to retrain as anything I wanted. Cost me thousands. I still don’t believe him. Just by reading what you post here, there is no way in the world you could ever fall under 100.
Hah same with me. I tested to try to get help for my physical disabilities (back injury, hard to walk or stand) so I can only work a desk job. But because my IQ is too high, I couldnt get a job placement. This was back in West Virginia where good looks are the #1 requirement for a job.
That’s fucked up when they tell you you are too smart for a job, or over qualified. They actually criticized me saying that I was a huge underachiever because I was only working as a corrections officer when I should have been a Doctor or Lawyer. No chance, I hated school, I never studied for a single exam, I couldn’t wait to leave.
Yeah I have also never trusted iq tests. Once I got 114 and another time 128. One thing is you can learn to solve questions asked in iq tests. (I might have got relatively higher results second time because I was studying mechanical engineering then)
Charles Whitman the American/texas mass shooter had an iq of 138 whereas many great scientists, mathematicians have had iq below 120

I never had a real life iq test but in most of the online iq tests my iq was around 120-140.. I even got 160 in one of them but online iq tests are fake so whats the point..

Your theory is good, but there’s something to be said about it. Most humans being have the potential to be shallow, pedantic, etc. On the other hand, all human beings have the potential to be good towards others, have empathy, etc. It could be said that the main difference between “us” and “them” is what we’ve gone through. I mean, i spent a good chunk of my life being an arrogant a**hole so i should know 😀
Oh, and if you’re mentioning troubled women, how about eva braun? i mean, she was in a relationship with the fuhrer himself, was a former model, and had no trouble with that adolf was up to, so she must have had some serious mental troubles, lol.

For some reason, I can’t grow much of a mustash and I’m almost 32. It’s all thin like a 16 year olds. As for a beard, I can grow that normally.
I envy you. I’m freaking wolverine (minus the regeneration, skeleton adamantium, and good looks). You should consider not having to shave almost daily as a blessing, in the periods that i have to go out regularly i spend a fortune on razor blades.

I totally agree with your theory. Why are we labeled as the “crazy” ones? Everybody on this site seems so kind and intelligent, and most other people you come across in the world just aren’t like that.
