So there’s this guy that I’ve been talking to for more than a month and he’s depressed he really needs help he’s been through a world of pain I want him to get help so bad but I don’t think he’ll listen to me he told me last night that he wants to kill him self he said he won’t do it now but one day he will explode and do it he really needs help but how do I convince him to get help I love him very much and he loves me to and no matter what I will always be by his side I even told him that ugh he needs help but he told me he didn’t want help
so here’s a poem I wrote about him
I will never know the pain you felt
I will never feel the tears you cried
I will never know the loss you felt
I will never know how it feels to miss your loved ones so much
But the day you die I will know all your pain

Well, you can’t necessarily convince anyone get help. Make sure you don’t take complete responsibility for his actions – you can’t control them, so you’re not responsible. You can be there for him to talk to, try to alleviate the pain, show that you care, be patient, and if you’re going through or you’ve been through similar problems, you could provide an example in yourself and your own strategies that there’s another way that could help him. Unless you’re able and willing to call the police if he’s on the brink of suicide (and I’m not recommending that), those are the only things you can do. They can make a big difference. Hopefully they’ll make a difference to him. 🙂
The poem is nice. Are you going to send it to him? It’s worth pointing out that if he’s the type of person who gets guilty easily, the last line might make him feel bad. But it sums up how you feel and how much you care about him. When I was 14 a slightly older friend of mine wrote me a poem about once being in the hell I was going through, and about all the ways it would change. It meant a lot to me that someone would do that for me.
Only he can decide to get help. The same goes for you, too. It’s a shame that you two can’t carry each other to a therapist and force each other to get better.
