Someone who also expected to end up in hell

Pretty much every single human being has made some mistakes and caused some hurt along the path of life. Key, is what we learn from those mistakes and how we handle the aftermath. Some things can never be put right, but that doesn’t mean we have to continue to make the same or similar mistakes or continue to cause harm or pain to others going forward.

When a mistake is realized, the first think we, as individuals, should do is take responsibility for our actions, then, if possible, apologize. Then if possible, and warranted, make restitution/amends to try to right the wrong. Afterwards, need to objectively analyse the mistake to figure out where we went wrong and take steps to correct the mistake to ensure we don’t continue make that mistake going forward. Until time machines are invented, we can’t “undo” the past so the only thing we can do is move forward.

Luckily (or not – depending on your perspective/worldview), there are no hells or heavens to penalize or reward our behavior while living – the only penalties/rewards we face are those form humanity/society on this life/world. We also have to live with ourselves for the things we do. I can think of dozens of events of the top of my head where I acted improperly and wish I had handled things differently/better … but I’ve forgiven myself these transgressions and learned to not make those errors going forward. That HAS to be good enough since there is no other method/means to do otherwise AND have a relatively happy, healthy life (mentally speaking) … to do otherwise is to set an anchor to a point in time and relive the transgression over and over and over again and there can never be a different outcome – just like Sisyphus, you’ll never roll the boulder up the hill. To do this is to create your own personal mortal living hell and there is no “requirement” in life to do this – of course there also isn’t a “requirement” preventing you form torturing yourself in this way either. But don’t count on an “afterlife” for any justice … the end of life is “the end” period. So don’t bother losing sleep over that. It’s better to channel that energy into fixing the mistake in the here and now and making amends/restitution to those we’ve wronged or hurt/harmed.
