Why is life so unfair? I’ll never understand. I’ll never understand why people can be so cruel, why people die, why we cant be happy. We are in a world where people actually want to die. But not for selfish reasons, not really. We just want the pain to end. And people dont get that. Many times Ive dreamt about ways to die. My friend says its “a cry for help.” But when I was doing it I didnt care about wanting to be saved. I just wanted it to end, it meaning the pain, the depression, the sadness. I didnt mean to fail those multiple times. I meant to succeed. But maybe I did mean to fail. Had I taken more pills I would have died instead of just waking up sick. How is it that you could want so badly to die and yet when given the opportunity, we dont do it. Dont get me wrong some people actually succeed. I wish I had succeed but I didnt. Its nights like these that make me beg for this pain to end. But I care about the people in my life and I dont want them to hurt. I wish they would go away so I didnt have to worry about them anymore and I could end my life and they would never know. They would go on about their life and never even give my life a second glance. However, when you think about it, when someone dies people cry for the first couple weeks maybe even the first month and then though they may still be sad about it, it will get easier for them. They get busy and so caught up in their own life that they only give you a thought now and then.
No matter whether you believe in the exsistence of god or not, life will never be fair nor simple nor even easy. Why is that? Why do people die? Why do we get so depressed once someone dies? Why do we consider dying with them just to be with them again? Why put someone through that much pain? Or even why create people who just dont eve give a shit about the lives of other people. High school is the worst. Some girls in my school told this other girl she should kill herself and she tried to commit suicide and landed in the hospital and know she has kidney failure and all those girls care about is getting in trouble. Why are people like that even born?
Maybe Ill just never understand. But honestly, I would prefer not to live in such a world. I’d rather die.

“Why is life unfair?”
Quite the fair question. Might not be possible to sufficiently answer.
Perhaps your time would be better spent learning to compensate for the unfairness, so that it’s not such a disadvantage for you, because it’s quite possibly futile to attempt to correct the unfairness. Some people like it that way.
Life is unfair because life is unscripted and completely improv. Some performers are good and some are bad, and it seems like the bad ones really like taking up the whole stage and pushing the good ones off the side so there’s no competition with their bad acting.
“Life is unfair because [x]”
You could write a freaking encyclopedia to represent [x].
I think that:
“How to life a worthwhile life in an unfair world” would probably make a best-seller, as long as it was actually useful and not just a thousand pages of BS. Hell, maybe if it was total BS. People would buy it out of sheer desperation.
Life is unfair because the whole concept of fair and unfair exists only in our minds and what might be fine for some is not for others.
It’s amazing how people can oppose things but when they are placed into a different situation, suddenly they’re in favor. There are no clear lines. Everything is what you make it.
All you need to remember in life is to try to think about how others feel and treat them accordingly, and don’t injure anyone unless they were deliberately trying to harm you first and in so put your life in danger. Otherwise, try to enjoy yourself, take care of your body, and don’t get too down about what you can’t control.
There are too many sad people. Some people like me will always be sad. That doesn’t mean everyone else has to be that way. If you look for it, there is a lot to enjoy in life. Once you’re out of high school things will be much easier.
@Persephone: I’m pretty sure you have a good capacity for the whole thinkin’ business. You always have very thoughtful and intelligent things to say.
Thanks lorax. 🙂 I can say the same for you.
Haha indeed you are both correct for everyones definition of fair is different. But I am the kind of person who worries about everything I can and cannot control and dwell on the worst things in life. Unfortunately, its just who I am. :/
A lot of people do that. It’s good to get to a point where you start to let it go, and when others treat you unkindly to shake it off, and help others who might be suffering from being bullied. No one bullies someone who seems strong and can stand up for themselves. Being strong means knowing which things in life aren’t worth the pain. You can beat yourself up over everything, but you won’t get far that way. If you make a mistake, apologize and try not to repeat it; if someone else hurts you, you have the choice to forgive or to move on with your life without them (unless they are your parents/caretakers, in which case you’d have to stick around until you’re of legal age, or go into the foster system).
Anyway, my point is, you can’t control others but you can try to control how you react to them. It’s okay to be sad sometimes, but you also need to take time to appreciate the happy moments. It’s much easier to get through life if you have a good sense of humour. If your friends don’t make you laugh, find some people who do. You can even watch comedy shows. Sometimes just taking an hour or two for that can make you feel better.
You have to remember that the longer you think of the things that hurt you, the more pain you’ll have. If you can look at your life and realize that not *everything* is bad, then you can make yourself start thinking of the good things too. Dance to good music. Eat your favorite food without worrying if it’ll make you gain weight or something. Laugh more. Do all the good (non-harmful) things you enjoy.
Engaging in moments where you are lighthearted and carefree will do so much in helping you think positively and not be caught up on what you can’t change, and will inspire you to attempt to fix what *can* be changed.
Lately Ive been getting high. Thats my release, my escape. Though my boyfriend doesnt know about it. He would be really mad if he did. It has its negatives because now I have to take a drug test to get a job and Im screwed. My dad died in March and I still havent forgiven myself for not being there for him while he was suffering. I hate myself and who I am. Happiness isnt exactly easy in my life. I find it when Im with my best friend that is until she wants to hangout with her boyfriend and its awkward and I feel like a third wheel because they are constantly being all mushy gushy and its like seriously? Just stop just once, I dont want to see that. And hes all she ever talks about. So I dont always like hanging around her but I see her everyday. I just dont really like life in general.
I’m very sorry to hear about your dad. I can imagine how awful that was.
But don’t hate yourself because none of it was your fault, and it is hard to be around people who are suffering because it hurts. No one can blame you for that.
Well, it’s difficult to be around friends when they’re in relationships, that’s true… You could try looking for people who aren’t so preoccupied, or join some kind of team/club/organization to keep you busy – and you’d meet many others that way.
Life is really tough right now, but if you can find something fun to do (not just getting high), that will take your mind off everything else, you can slowly recover. Things happen that we don’t expect and that we can’t change, but we are still able to move forward and feel wiser as a result.
In order to understand why life is unfair you have to consider the opposite….what if life was 100% fair for all and equal? Everybody was attractive…..everybody was wealthy and healthy …..everybody was intelligent…..everybody was exactly what the person was next to them 4 billion people exactly the same no more or no less than each other. If this were reality humanity would be virtually non existent ….If everybody was attractive then nobody is attractive because there would be no way no measure attractiveness. If everybody was wealthy what would be the point of work? what would be the motivation to even want a job? would money even exist?…. If we were all healthy then all humans would live and die at the same rate and the earth would be very over crowded. If everyone was intelligent then really everybody would be dumb….think about it how would we know what is what if everybody was smart as hell? There would be no need to research anything or invent new technology because we would all be equally smart so what would be the point? If life was fair there could be no variance in anything or it wouldn’t be fair. Life would be so dull and boring….It would be like watching a NASCAR races and seeing all the cars racing at the same speed and finishing at the exact same time…..There would be no NBA NFL no sports ….no acting….how would anything function if life were 100% fair for everybody? If we were all given the same talents abilities etc etc nothing would go anywhere….most people would be dead from suicide simply because they would be so bored with everything.
Without “evil”…..how can we even tell that “good” exists? it sad but there has to be evil in this world…..at this point it seems there is too much but still good and evil can’t exist without each other…. its like if a rich person has a baby and never tells that baby “poor” people exist that child will think “rich” is the default he will not know he is privileged unless he is informed by somebody…he will think that everybody is born rich because he does not know of the opposite
The sad fact is that life has to be unfair its just the way it is….If everybody was a diamond then diamonds would have no value…..but when there is variance you can assess value to individuals based on whether they are diamonds ,rubies ,sapphires or just plain ole CZ
there are a few typos ….sorry about that
@PainNlife Hey man, you always make good points. Like I told you, you know how to use your brains.
@Persephone thanks and you do too!…..I just wish I could use it to build a time machine
@PainNlife I want the Doctor Who kind so I can travel into the future and through space, and maybe visit parts of history I was curious about as well. There’s nothing in my own life that I want to do-over, ha. If it failed once it probably would the second time. From here on out, I can only devise new strategies and new starting points.
“Because all things are not equal.”
I’m going with that answer.
@Persephone yeah space travel is intriguing. I would want to see if I could find another “earth”….and I would visit the beginning of time…..just to see once and for all what is the true origins of the planet. I would probably go to the 1400s america too… just to see how peaceful the Indians lived before all the bullshit came to their step
@PainNlife there was a small scene on Doctor Who that showed the planets forming and stuff. But that would be interesting to see, yeah.
I doubt any time was entirely peaceful, though. The cultures of every age had their own adversaries to contend with.
@Persephone not like today though with nuclear warfare its a whole different ball game we play….I like the idea of no technology and no bullshit…I’d be content living among the Indians….they only had to worry about food and shelter and probably the occasional disagreement over a hot chick …the basic needs not all the extra stuff we think is needed….
@PainNlife Well, they had few cures and treatments for illnesses, and they also had to worry about wild animals, as well as other tribes… and sometimes they would go to war with each other.
I wouldn’t have liked that lifestyle myself, as I would have been forced to do everything I was told and would have no independence. I’m a person who likes a lot of quiet and privacy and I would never have done well in such ‘community’ settings. I’d be the loner they’d kick out and leave for the wolves, probably. :/
I enjoy technology. I can’t imagine living without it. Nonetheless, if it were possible, I would totally travel to former times to see how people lived. Naturally I’d want to see ancient Greece, and Rome as well, and maybe the Renaissance, and the Romantic Era, and the Age of Enlightenment, and what the hell, the French Revolution and basically any period that had a lot of freethinkers and creativity. I would have so loved to have gone bar-hopping with Hemingway and Fitzgerald and T.S. Eliot and those guys in the 1920’s, too.
I dunno, despite all the difficulties and strife, there have been great things and great people over many points in history, and today isn’t any different. Hell, there are a lot of great people on this forum even.
@Persephone ….I enjoy technology as well but I feel it does more harm than good ….sure it has allowed for better health care and entertainment but it has also developed a means to end the human race. If Russia ever gets pissed off and disgruntled enough to hit the red button well….since they have the strongest nuclear weapons ….north america is toast but of course we will fire them….and then everybody else who has them will fire them and then back to the stone ages for us!
It would be cool to travel through all those era’s and experience the culture. I guess I probably am romanticizing the time of the Indians a little too much. I just want to be somewhere where society isn’t dependent on currency as a means to survive. A lot of evil would disappear with if money were non existent.
@PainNlife I tend to think it’s more good. It’s true that there have been things that aren’t great, like weapons of mass destruction, but there were weapons around long before technology. Technology is all very recent and I am extremely thankful because without it my life would have been totally empty and who knows what I’d be doing… Reading books and cooking/baking is probably about it. I’m just very thankful for the chance the Internet and portable devices have given us to learn and interact.
There was actually this organization that was promoting trading instead of currency. They suggested such things as trading services for food, and so on. However, that seems more beneficial to third-world countries. It could come in handy in some of the more affluent countries too, I suppose.
(I forgot to mention, I’d also totally like to visit the age of the Sumerians and ancient Egyptians and such. It would have been pretty cool to be a ‘pharoah’ and be considered a ‘god’ by everyone. Even though it might have felt lonely because everyone had to bow in their presence and weren’t allowed to look them in the eyes, under pain of death).
WTF… I wrote a long response but when I clicked send it disappeared? Now I’m pissed. Maybe this means it’s time for me to go to sleep.
I read it….it went to the spam folder….every now and then the spam troll eats up a comment or two….but I agree its just the fact that we have the ability to wipe ourselves out that’s so terrifying ….
It would be cool to be considered a god but you know what they say “absolute power corrupts absolutely” …..I would also want to see a T-rex and perhaps train it as my own personal attack dog and bring it back….if I weren’t torn to shreds first
LOL dinosaurs are awesome. I wish I had one I could fly with.
And I figure I’m corrupted enough, so it wouldn’t matter if I was in a position of authority. I already have the mindset for it. 😉
You’d be an evil tyrant lol……You’d totally own Rome and Greece though….Persephone was Zeus and Demeters daughter but ironically Queen of the underworld….they would all fear you like the plague….
LMAO they would. In fact, people were afraid even of saying that name in olden times. It was rather like saying ‘Voldemort.’ ‘She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.’
I wouldn’t be /too/ evil, though. You know. 😉 I have plenty of capability for implementing efficiency, lol.
lol Can you imagine modern times if Greek gods and demi gods were the reality?…..I wonder if a nuke would destroy MT.Olympus or just piss Zeus the fuck off….
I also wonder if I took modern technology back to early civilization and showed them how it worked then came back to the present…..would we be in a super ultra advanced era? because then they would have had ages to refine and upgrade the technology….
I would also want to go to Mark Zuckerbergs parents home and give his father a kick in the balls before he slept with his mother and stop the invention of FB….I hate FB
Lol I wonder what Zeus would do. He’d probably try to take control of the weapons somehow, or he’d join alliances with whoever seemed to have the most power. I wonder who he’d side with today…
Maybe… but none of the components of modern technology would be available, so while they could take something apart, they wouldn’t have the material to attempt a replica. There were a lot of great, ‘technological’ inventions over the years, but these were sometimes a lot more complicated to put together than what we have today. We’ve simplified everything with coding and motherboards and electrical wiring and so on.
Haha… If you believe ‘The Social Network,’ Zuckerberg is a bit of a douche. Actually all I need to do is look at Fb to realize that. It can be useful sometimes, but I gave up on it a year ago and deleted all profile info. Meh. Screw everyone who posts pictures of themselves on sandy beaches at the seaside.
