Why do the doors of our perception need cleaned? One time, I got a flake of metal stuck on my eye. The doctor at the hospital removed it with a magnet and some saline. Maybe there’s some spiritual equivalent to that.
I wrote ”Will the doors of our perception ever be cleansed?” as a reference to a quote made by William Blake.Let me explain…
The Doors (the band) were named by the title of Aldous Huxley’s essay ”The Doors of Perception”,witch itself was a reference to a William Blake’s quote that can be found in his book ”The Marriage of Heaven and Hell”. The quote is this:
” If the doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear to man as it is, Infinite. For man has closed himself up, till he sees all things thro’ narrow chinks of his cavern. ”
Sure, sure. But what did Blake mean by that? And why did Huxely quote him?
I liked the poem, myself. Reminds me of that anarcho-primitivist, John Zerzan. I don’t think Blake would approve of how out-there Zerzan gets, but they strike the same notes occasionally.
