Honestly, I just can’t understand nor fathom why Most / Majority of people can go watch movies, read cool, creative, imaginative books / novels / anime / comics, or play super imaginative & fantasy video games, and then later on they just go back to reality, as if nothing happens, and they’re ok with everything.
I hate to say this, but Most people simply just lack Imaginations. Even worse, Most people are boring. All people care in the everyday’s reality & their lives is just the most superficial, mundane, boring, & stupid things. Which is very depressing, especially when you feel like you’re just alone & can’t relate with most people anymore.
And I even can already predict in advance, that people will quickly spout out & say boring things like: “if you find Life / reality boring, then maybe it’s you who are boring, not this awesome, beautiful Life / reality.”
Bullshit.
People who said those words are, in my experience, either usually just stupid, naive, ignorant, and/or boring, lacking Imagination & even intelligence / not too smart.
Reality IS boring & depressing. Especially the more you know, learn, & observe it.
Have any of you heard the “Avatar syndrome” ? Google it. It’s basically the post-effects that many people apparently got, after watching the movie “Avatar” (James Cameron). It’s the feeling of depression, because they’re back to reality again, after watching (& experiencing) such magical, cool, awesome, mind-blowing, breath-taking, & beautiful ‘other-worlds’ of Avatar world.

We impart value to our subjective reality, our life’s variability and fluidity is limited only by our own imagination and creativity.
I may or may not return to this with further thoughts.
I kinda wish I lived in a fantasy world.
Escape when you need to escape. All those people lining up for movies, symphonies, concerts, football and basketball games, operas, ballets, needlepoint classes – just like you, they’re looking for a temporary escape from the sewer of life. Humans are incapable of constructing a life/living that offers fulfillment, so we turn to those amongst us of a creative ilk to lift us out of the gloom of everyday life, if even for only a half hour.
Enjoy yourself, escape as often as you need. Craziness awaits if you (we) dont.
I’m not sure if you’ll like what I’m about to say, but here goes anyway:
1. Reality, is well, reality. Life isn’t a videogame or a story, where everyone is the protagonist and every single thing goes right, and we always win no matter what. As much as people don’t like to lose, don’t like to be wrong, we do both. A lot. Because human beings are far from perfect.
But that doesn’t mean it’s always all doom and gloom, all the time. There are so many positive forces in the world. About people doing amazing things, breaking boundaries, accomplishing their dreams. And it’s real.
We need the losses to help set up the wins, we need to be wrong to learn what’s right… and real victories are so much sweeter than a victory in a video game, for example.
2. I have no problem with escapism. None whatsoever. However, at the end of the day, wishing you were your favorite character, or a videogame character, or a character in a book or tv show will do nothing but bum you out even more. Not to mention how insane things would be if everyone was a fantasy superhero/supervillian/character archetype…
I know people’s real lives aren’t always fun and exciting, and can be downright terrible depending on their experiences, but an overexposure to things like videogames and fantasy does affect the way you see things.
I’m a bit of proof of this. In the past 5 years, I’ve gamed so much, I tend to reference things in terms of videogames, which isn’t exactly all that good, especially since real life doesn’t exactly work that way.
3. You have to find some good, even if it means looking really hard. Yes, I know exactly where I’m posting this to, but still. One simple good thing, one moment of stability, or one thing that manages to get a bit of a chuckle out of one of us, can make a huge difference a lot of the time. It can allow people to go as far as to second guess an attempt in some cases. I know it’s hard. It’s really hard. Adulting is hard. Being a misunderstood kid in school is hard. Not having anyone to talk to, because noone was there for you, or because you don’t trust anyone irl, is hard. And when you’re depressed, anxious, bipolar, etc, it’s one of the hardest things to see something positive in a swamp of near constant negativity and sadness, amid the conglomeration (sic?) of all those other feelings. But please try anyway. It may help more than you think..
I’ll end on this note:
The best stories are the so called “hero’s quest” stories, where the main character starts off as a “nobody” and through trials and tribulations becomes a “somebody”. Sometimes they have friends who have their back, sometimes they lose themselves along the way and gain “friends” that wind up betraying them in the end, sometimes they come up from the very bottom (no friends, no family, just them alone). However, in all of these stories, the hero winds up triumphant. The hero learns something about themselves, something important, and they grow as a character, regardless of if it’s good or bad.
Do you know why this story is told over and over again?
Because this happens in real life. It’s inspiring, and believable! It’s an overlapping theme that can be applied in a multitude of situations, and the best part is, you can put yourself in that person’s shoes and be that hero. You can play out this story in your head, and then ACTUALLY DO IT in a way that fits your situation, which I think is pretty awesome.
So, don’t give up on reality. Don’t give up on yourself. I know I sound like a cheesy motivational speaker rn, but hopefully, some of what I’ve said makes some sense..
